(Kolkata): Terrorism has become an extremely serious issue which has engulfed the whole world. The Kolkata chapter of the Antar Rashtriya Sahayog Parishad, ARSP, will be organising a one day conference titled “The scourge of Terrorism and its impact on India and the world ” at the famed Indian Council for Cultural Relations, ICCR building in Kolkata on the 22nd of April 2017. The conference would be addressed by world renowned academics, diplomats and subject experts in the field.
The ARSP (Antar Rashtriya Sahayog Parishad) was founded as a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political society in 1978, with an aim to keep close interaction with people all over the world. The founders were of the view that India, as an ancient culture and civilization, with spirituality as its foundation stone, must spread its concept of `Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’-the world is one family. The West Bengal chapter of the ARSP was established in 1984 under the leadership of the then Secretary General late Shri Baleshwar Agrawal.
Speaking to Democracy Express, Shri Kunjbihari Singhania, Secretary, ARSP-Kolkata elaborated- “Kolkata is an important city in India, and being the capital of West Bengal has a significant strategic bearing on nation’s security from the perspective of Bangladesh and Nepal, and hence, making it the most opportune place to have a seminar on the above mentioned theme.
Though terrorism as an issue on its own was mainstreamed globally only after 9/11, India has been a victim of terrorism for decades. It seems that the whole world is afflicted by terrorism in contemporary times, therefore, it is high time that the international community gets its act together immediately to address the scourge of terrorism in order to exterminate it. The conference scheduled for the 22nd April is a humble initiative by ARSP to discuss the issue in a serious manner and brainstorm to find agreeable ways and strategies to secure the very end.”
