SAKSHAM to launch mega tree plantation drive in New Delhi on 5 September by the Divyang/ Differently –Abled to mark the National Eye Donation Fortnight 2017

(New Delhi, India) To mark the National Eye Donation Fortnight in India which is from 25 August to 8 September every year, SAKSHAM will launch a mega tree plantation drive by the Differently-Abled/Divyang in New Delhi on 5 September 2017.

Samadrishti, Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal, SAKSHAM, is a national voluntary organisation based in India that works for the empowerment of the differently-abled and to secure the Rights of the Peoples with Disabilities. Its programme Corneal Andhatv Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, CAMBA, was launched last year on 5 March 2016 in New Delhi with the blessings of the Prime Minister of India Sh. Narandra Modi. CAMBA which aspires to make India corneal blindness free by 2018 is a very unique programme in the sense that it is not only launched in the world’s largest democracy but also in a country of over 1.25 billion people. It shall provide valuable learning and generate significant body of knowledge that would be utilised by other organisations and institutions working in the field across the world, and help them to secure the Rights of the People with Disabilities as well.

The mega tree plantation drive by the Divyang will be held from 9 am onward on 5 September at St. Vivekananda Senior Secondary School in Ladpur Village. There shall also be a blood donation and eye-check up camp for the local community that shall undertake an eye donation pledge on the occasion. The event shall be instrumental to spread the message of CAMBA for eye donation amongst the populace and make them an important stakeholder of the process to make India corneal blindness free by 2018.
