The Embassy of Malaysia in Santiago with the support of Matrade Santiago, Perwakilan Santiago and Friends of Malaysia in Santiago held the Malaysia National Day at the new Embassy compound at 3461 Callao Las Condes. The event which was held one day earlier than the actual merdeka day, commenced at 4 pm and ended three hours later with the attendance of more than 150 guests.

Among guests attended other than ambassadors and diplomats were businessmen from the Chamber of Commerce, and Senior Government Officials. The VVIPs in attendance were Mayor Mr. Claudio from of Graneros, Mayor Mr. Julio Palestro from San Miguel, Mr. Marcos Quintanilla whom is the Vice President of Consejes of Chile, and Amb Gloria Navarrete Chief of Protocol and representing the President of Chile to the said event.

The said event was packed with programmes such as Silat performance by the embassy officers, singing the Anak kecil main api and skesta tanggal 31, poem on merdeka recited in Spanish by Amb Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez, Singing of 1 Malaysia by all the staffs of the Embassy, Guitar Playing on Negaraku, and Cake as well as Pulut Kuning Cutting. The Proton Car Exora was also displayed at the compound and invited interest among guests attending with the display of Malaysia on the Embassy Proton Car.

The event also saw the High School Students from the San Jose de Maipo attended and gave the traditional Chilean Quaker dance to please the guests more.

Those attended were also served with varieties of Malaysian delicacies and food such as Satay Ayam, Rendang Ayam, Nasi Briyani Kambing Kuzi, Dosa, Nasi Impit Kuah Kacang, Lontong, Mee Hoon Goreng, Tepung Pelita, Dalca Kambing, Kambing Pangang, Karipap, Martabak, Spring Roll, Teh Tarik and Sirap Bandung. All chosen and prepared by the Perwakilan Ladies of Santiago to reduce cost as well as to ensure the qualities of the food like in Malaysia. It also underscore the importance to ensure the food prepared reflects the different culture aspects in Malaysia be it Malay, Chinese or Indian.
